Gavin and Stacey seems to be well and truly in the mainstream now, but the way it's got there is quite rare and emulates the success of Little Britain. Considering it's been shown on BBC Three for so long, it's really been mooted by the viewing public through word of mouth. Although its airing of the whole series one on BBC2 recently helped, it's become popular by being so very good and accessible to make people talk about it.
With very well written scripts and a wide range of characters of which none are poor, in terms of acting or premise. You can truly take all of the characters to heart and I'm glad, but sad, to hear that the writers are creating a Christmas Special to close the show off.
The fact that the series lasts only three hours shows that the premise is so simple that it needed to be well written and succinct. The good news is that it succeeds on so many levels and is another great example of how British comedy is on the crest of a wave, with so many of our home shows being bought by the US, which this show has recently been too.
To surmise, A good entertaining comedy and one that you'll watch with a smile on your face from start to finish.
